Consumers are more and more interested in knowing what they are buying. Knowing what you are buying or selling is therfore a growing challenge for the food industry.
Food component can be mixed by error or intentionally with lower quality components (i.e. pork into pure beef hamburger). Food product origin can also be falsified to increase price (i.e. salmon from farming sold as angled salmon).
Genetic markers are reliable tools able to tackle such error or fraud by proving the identity/authenticity of foodstuffs. DNA-based methods can also quantify food components. A better confidence in product labeling or branding is gained for the food chain operators and consumers.
DNAVision Agrifood has developed numerous tests using specific genetic markers to identify food components for all the stakeholders of the Food Chain (farmers, food industry, wholesalers and retailers). Examples of services are listed below:
This list is not exhaustive and DNAVision is continuously developing new tests for the food industry. DNAVision offers the identification service for the following species:
DNAVision Agrifood has developed a specific service for Halal food industry and certification. This test aims to certify the absence of pork contamination in Halal food items prepared using processed meat or byproducts. The test is indeed able to detect pork contamination at very low level (0.1 %) to guarantee pork-free alimentation.
These services are carried out on different matrices. DNAVision has successful developed DNA extraction from a variety of food products, such as:
Raw Materials
Processed Food
DNA extraction methods from other agro-food matrices are continuously developed by DNAVision. For more information, please contact us at: info@dnavision.be
