Development of strain markers

The development of strain marker is a useful epidemiological marker to track specific strains of any bacterial or fungal species. Those markers are also promising tool to monitor quickly and specifically strain populations in various environment..

Molecular methods are useful tools to track specific bacterial or yeast strains throughout the food processing. Upon request, DNAVision has already developed DNA markers allowing the unambiguous identification of a particular strain having probiotic, medical or biocontrol properties. Those developments were done with inegalable speed and accuracy. Those unambiguous identifications were particularly useful to track and to quantify the population of these strains during food processing or conservation.

These know-how and technology have also several industrial applications:

to traceback the origin of bacterial contamination of food (i.e. detemining if the bacteria originated from a particular foodstuff or process step)
to track a specific strain of interest, either involved in fermentation processes or having probiotic or prebiotic properties, throughout the product processing and conservation
to prove the illegal use of a particular strain by competitors
